Environmental Stewardship

Aden Aggregates upholds environmental standards and practices

At our mine sites we operate under direction and regulation from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to remain in compliance with all environmental requirements and best practices as required for the operation of our mines.

Being worthy stewards of the land is of the most important to us. Our Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability efforts go beyond the mine and required regulations.

Expanding farmland preservation and innovative carbon capture initiatives

As development growth across our region continues, preserving and maintaining farmland is something that we are passionate about. Well maintained and preserved farmland is not only good for the environment but its also should be looked at as a matter of local sustainable food security. For that reason, we have worked to acquire and maintain over 360 acres of prime orange county farmland. That acreage is more than 3X the affected acreage within our mines. As we expand our business we will also continue to expand farmland preservation initiatives.

Preserving farmland is not only about having an easement and non-development agreement in place. It also involves the long-term care of that land through sustainable cropping and proper soil maintenance. We want that land to be available and ready in the future when the need arises to produce local food.

Another initiative we are working on in early stages involves the use of rock flour spread across farmland to permanently remove carbon from the air. This scientifically proven process is called enhanced rock weathering, and has only recently been discovered as possibly one of the best ways to remove harmful CO2 permanently. We are excited to continue working to launch this initiative and share our success in the future.
